Nurse Assistant

The Nurse Assistant program is a great starting place for the student interested in working as a supportive caregiver in a healthcare setting or in further education in practical nursing or other health-related disciplines.

This one-year program provides training in total patient care both in the classroom and through off-campus, supervised clinical experiences. Students prepare for the New York State Certified Nurse Assistant examination. Certification qualifies individuals to work in any nursing home in the state.

Body systems, common disorders and related care procedures
Expanded role of the nursing assistant
Response to basic emergencies
Employment opportunities and career growth
Integrated science and/or English

Portfolio:
All seniors create a portfolio which they present to teachers, administrators, peers and/or industry professionals. The portfolio includes employability information and exemplary work in technical and communication skills that students have created and developed over the course of the year.

Academic Prerequisites:
8th grade reading level
8th grade math

Workbook
CPR
Wristwatch with second hand
Name tag
Male students: white pants, white shirt, white shoes, white socks
Female students: white uniform or white pants and white shirt, white stockings, smock (available through program)
